Reading Your Search Console Data

Last updated 4/4/2026

What Is Search Console Data?

Search Console shows how your website appears in Google search results. This data comes directly from Google and tells you how people are finding your site through organic search.

Key Metrics Explained

  • Clicks — The number of times someone clicked a link to your site from Google search results. More clicks mean more visitors from search.
  • Impressions — How many times your site appeared in search results, even if nobody clicked. High impressions with low clicks may mean your titles or descriptions need improvement.
  • CTR (Click-Through Rate) — The percentage of impressions that resulted in a click. A higher CTR means your search listings are compelling. Typical CTR ranges from 2% to 10% depending on your industry.
  • Average Position — Where your site ranks in search results on average. Position 1 is the top spot. Anything under 10 means you are on the first page.

How to Use This Data

Look for trends over time rather than daily fluctuations. A steady increase in clicks and impressions means your SEO is working. If you notice a sudden drop, let your agency team know so they can investigate.

Top Queries and Pages

You can also see which search terms bring visitors and which pages appear most in results. This helps you understand what your audience is looking for.
